Lauren Hunter wins Spotlight Award
Lauren Hunter, age 15 has had an amazing year. Last spring, she stepped into the role of Aurora in the Peninsula School of Performing Arts (PSPA) production of The Sleeping Beauty, when Royal Ballet Dancer Elsa Goddard was unable to secure a visa to perform. Then in the summer, she travelled to Orlando, Florida to compete in the World Ballet competition and took first place. In Fall she performed Sugar Plum Fairy for both PSPA and Marat Daukayev School of Ballet. In February, she competed at the Prix de Lausanne International Ballet Competition, in Switzerland, taking 5th place and receiving a scholarship to attend the Royal Ballet School in London beginning in the Fall of 2017. Since then, she auditioned for and won the Spotlight Awards for Classical Dance at the Los Angeles Music Center, and most recently was in New York at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) finals, where she took 3rd place and the Bronze medal in the Senior Women’s level. This is a young dancer with talent and drive. We hope she will go on to a successful ballet career. But before that she will perform in one more PSPA production of La Bayadere, May 12 & 14. Don’t miss a chance to see this lovely young dancer before she heads to London to continue her training.
